Today while I was in a pizza store, I saw this guy behind me, late 20's early 30's in a wheelchair. I will give an abbreviated version of our conversation:
Me: " What happend too your leg, Man?"
Wheelchair Guy: " Are you serious?"
Me: "Would you rather me stare? or just ask?"
Wheelchair Guy:: "I Havn't decided, but I got if you must know I got clipped when I was on my motorcycle"
Me: "Ohhhhh, shit, really??? Thats awesome!!!! What an awesome way to loose your leg"
Wheelchair Guy:: (chuckle) "I guess so..."
Me: How long ago?
Wheelchair Guy:: A few months ago
Me: Big adjustment I'm sure,
Wheelchair Guy:: ummmm yeah, it's been a bit tough in the city, I've been in Cali for a little while and it was a lot easier there
Me: Let me show you a pic of this dude on his wheelchair on an escalator (showed him my background screen saver thing on my iphone, refer to post dated: )
Wheelchair Guy:: Holy shit! Where was this?
Me: Grand Central! He did it all the way up from the 7 train!
Wheelchair Guy:: I am NOT that good yet, wow. Wow! I am not going to complain again
Me: Okay well, nice to meet you, and good luck, sorry if I was rude
Wheelchair Guy:: You weren't at all. Actually you litterally just changed my life. You're so polite, and you're gregarious, sweet nature just changed my view on people. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. Thank you sooo, sooo much.
Our convo was far longer and more articulated than this, but again, this is the abbreviated cliff notes version. BUT at the end of the day, I actually changed someone's life for being super curious and nice.
